This could be caused by the engine overheating. Do you have the engine in a cowling?
The engine could be leaning out in the air, too, then shutting off because it's gettign too hot. You can try richening the needle valve a little more prior to take off to help. |

Hi,
It depends on the individual engine. Generally you would richen the engine about 500 rpms from max. If you have a tach, this is easily verified. If not, my suggestion is to richen the engine slightly more than you already are. Also, the fuel you use with that engine should contain at least some castor oil as a blend of the oil content.
You might also double-check you fuel tank. It's possible that the clunk is stuck in the tank or fallen off completely. I've seen this happen in the past and this can of course cause the engine to quit after a period of time as fuel is burned off.
Also check to ensure all the cylinder head bolts, backplate bolts are tight.
On another note, if the engine has a lot of time on it, or it is beginning to wear (the piston and sleeve) overheating and cutting out during flight can be the result. Without knowing more about your engine's past and knowing that the engine has not been manufactured for close to 15 years, this is only a guess.
Hope this helps. |
