I just purchased 2 magnum 4 sroke 70 blue heads NIB. started breaking in one as per instruction. as soon as it started I noticed bubbles coming out of the rocker cover and back plate raw fuel coming out.
I shut the engine down checked the tightness of all the screws and found them to be tight. restared and the same thing air bubbles and raw fuel coming out.
Regards, Pete Crying or Very sad

PS: would running the engine to rich cause this???

Hi,

Some fuel oil bubbles coming out of the rocker cover is normal, however, fuel coming out of the backplate is not, and that's generally not an issue with the engine. Are you positive than it's not raw fuel that's come out of the carburetor during break-in (since engine is running so rich?). This can certainly happen. Raw fuel drips or sprays out the carburetor directly onto the backplate and it can be pronounced with the engine running so rich.

Also, how is the engine running? If it's running fine, that would indicate no problem. If the backplate is leaking air, the engine generally won't run very well. I would continue with the break-in process until the you're able to lean out the engine some more, then check again.

If you don't think that's the cause, we'd be happy to take a look at the engine and test it and replace any defective parts. Just send it to us with a note explaining the problem, along with your contact information and we'll go through it. Ship the package to us at the address below.

Hope this helps.
