I'm not quite clear as to what your refering to but the gear change in the transmission takes a lot of RPM's to engauge. It would more likely be a clutch inside the bell gear on the front of the engine causing problems if the gears are not stripped Confused

well, i looked and none of the gears are striped. the transmission and the clutch bell both line up. the smaller of the two gears on the transmission is the one that im having a problem with. first gear only spins one way and drives the tires.however i cant get second gear to spin the drive shaft. it just spins when the engine shifts. so it isnt that gears are grinding i just cant get second gear to grip the drive shaft. also the clutch shoes on the engine are new.

Ah now were cooking, I know what your refering to. Does it go to a certain speed and then free wheel or the engine winds very high? Or does it just not shift?

The second that it shifts into second gear, the gear just spins and the engine just revs. It won't put any power to the wheels.

more than likely someone put the one way bearing on backwards Rolling Eyes or the shift lever is sticking but not likely Shocked something in the assembly Smile

All that you have been told is a very good place to start checking 4 your problem. But I would also check to make sure your cam is tight on the drive shaft. It will be the larger of the 2 allen bolts that you can see, when you look threw the slit where you adjust the shift point for the buggy. If when you first got the buggy, it changed gears 4 u. Then it's not in backwards. But if it has never shift be4, and was in the wrong way it would have jamed the cam. And more than likely in would have been stuck in 2nd. The good and bad of it is. the part you need is only 15.00 bucks. the bad is, either way you will need 2 take the tranny out ,to check it in full. because 9 out of 10 times. If it was just a loose cam, by the drive shaft just spinning inside the cam freely, it;s wolloed it out and it won't pinch the shaft anymore as it should. IT HAPPENED TO MY XLB just a few weeks ago, and i tried 2 short cut by retighting it. But ended up pulling it all back apart again, for the sake of trying to save 15.00 bucks. Good Luck 2 another X'er OHYEAH.. 2nd gear will always spin in both directions when it's not meshed with the clutch bell gears.
